Week 3

With the rise of challenges on social media within the past couple years, many of these challenges are beneficial in raising awareness for good causes, but some are taking young lives. A prime example of a beneficial challenge that spread across social media was the ALS Ice bucket challenge. Individuals all over social media including celebrities and politicians join the fight to spread awareness for ALS. However, there are other challenges on social media that are putting individuals lives in danger but also can be harmful to others as well. I remember when the cinnamon challenge was an up-and-coming thing and my friends and I did it regrettably. The older of us got hurt, it still wasn’t the brightest thing to do. But when looking at this “holocaust challenge”, this is downright unacceptable. With schools and other educational systems going in depth about the history and the trauma that occurred during World War II, it truly baffles me to think that younger generations are thinking this is OK to do. Not only does it portray these young creators in a horrible light but it goes to show what lengths people are willing to go to, to be trending.
